What is a domain name?
A domain name is the address entered to reach a website. Our domain name is redcarrot.co.uk. A domain name is often simply referred to as a 'domain' or 'web address'.
What can I use a domain name for?
Most people and businesses use domain names to help people find their websites. The domain name is usually related to their name, their brand or something memorable.
You can also use a domain name to create email addresses (yourname@yourdomain.co.uk). Most businesses have domain names because they help create a professional identity for the company.
How much does it cost to register a domain name?
Domain name registration is £25, and is charged annually.
How do I register a domain name?
Red Carrot oversees the domain registration and renewal process on your behalf.. We'll register your chosen domain and configure it to point to your website, and we'll oversee the renewal of the domain when the time comes.
What if I already own my domain?
If you have already registered a domain name through another company then we can easily transfer it to our control.
Who owns my domain name?
When we talk about owning a domain name, we are really talking about the exclusive rights to use that name. It is not possible to own a domain name outright, and you will have to pay a periodic renewal fee to keep the rights to your domain name. As far as Red Carrot is concerned, the domain name is yours. For administrative purposes, we'll retain control of the domain on your behalf whilst providing you with web hosting and email services, but should you ever wish to move away from us then we'll happily transfer the domain to your chosen provider.
